Setting the Scene for Max Webber Library’s Next Chapter
Max Webber Library in Blacktown, NSW recently refreshed its public spaces with a focus on creating quieter, more comfortable environments for its community, particularly its younger readers.
For this phase of the project, Acouflor worked alongside the design and installation team at Carpet Cutters to supply Harmonia SoftStep™ Carpet Tiles. Having previously worked with Acouflor’s Flinders™ Acoustic Carpet Tiles in other areas of the library with great success, the team knew exactly where to turn when it came time to elevate the reading spaces.
Why Harmonia SoftStep™
The brief called for flooring that could do more than look the part. For a library where children spend long hours seated and absorbed in books, comfort, acoustics and atmosphere all had to work in unison.
Harmonia SoftStep™ delivered on every front: its biophilic palette brought a natural calm to the reading room, its acoustic performance (NRC 0.25) helped keep the space quiet and conducive to concentration, and its soft underfoot cushioning and thermal resistance made all-day comfort possible for young visitors. The result is a library that doesn’t just house books, but nurtures the minds reading them.
A Palette With A Story to Tell
Two colourways were chosen to bring the vision to life. Day Dreaming, a soft blended charcoal, provides a grounded, neutral foundation that lets the space breathe and keeps the focus where it belongs: on the books and the readers. Ocean Drift introduces a rich, teal depth that evokes the calm of water, anchoring the biophilic design intent with colour that feels drawn directly from the natural world. Together, they create a palette that is quietly considered, balancing warmth with vibrancy, and softness with character.
